Clondalkin family appeal for funds to bring their son home from hospital

The family of a Dublin man with serious injuries are raising funds in order to bring him home for the first time following his accident.

Eoghan Gorman was paralysed from the neck down last year following a horrific bike accident in the Dublin mountains. The Clondalkin native was motorbiking with a friend on October 3 2021 when he came off his bike down a steep trail. He underwent emergency spinal surgery and spent several weeks in a medically induced coma following the ordeal.

However, the 23-year-old has fought against the odds and is continuing his treatment at the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dun Laoghaire. His family are hoping to bring him home for the first time since the accident, but require urgent funds to help support him outside of the hospital environment.

His mother Tanya wrote on GoFundMe: “In the coming months Eoghan will come home. He will need around the clock care and his home will need to be adapted to cater for his many medical needs. His ongoing medical care will cost hundreds of thousands of euros.”

The appeal continues: “If you’ve ever met Eoghan I’m sure you know how great a person he is, and this is truly a sad time. Eoghan has put up an amazing fight and we now need to help him continue with it.”

The family are incredibly grateful for the public’s support as they continue to advocate for Eoghan. They most recently raised funds at The Square Tallaght this weekend with the support of Dublin’s Fire Brigade. The collection raised over €3,200 for Eoghan’s rehabilitation.

Eoghan is a huge sports enthusiast who had a keen interest in motorbikes growing up. The hobby was a family one, his father having gifted him a motorbike before he was even born. The Taekwondo champion remains upbeat about his recovery in spite of the huge challenges he has faced in the past year.
