Clive and Amanda Owen's Our Yorkshire Farm neighbours exposed how family were off-camera

Our Yorkshire Farm viewers may think they know Amanda and Clive Owen - but what are they like off-screen?

The former couple, who have sadly announced they are splitting up after 22 years of marriage, tied the knot just five years after meeting for the first time.

Their love story began in 1995 when Amanda was looking for a ram - and stumbled upon Ravenseat Farm in Upper Swaledale.

Clive, who was divorced from his first wife and has two children from their marriage, was running the farm by himself when Amanda suddenly turned up one night asking to borrow a male sheep.

Despite the 21-year age gap, the pair found love and went on to to have nine children together - Annas, Violet, Edith, Raven, Clemmy, Nancy, Reuben, Miles, and Sidney.

Then they became stars of their own Channel 5 series, with fans becoming so fanatical about the Owen family that it's started to become a bit of an issue for the people who live around them.

Patricia and Ronald Tyler, who are aged 67 and 75, have lived next door to Ravenseat Farm for two decades and have watched the family grow.

The Tylers retired and moved out of the London hustle and bustle by relocating to the remote part of the Yorkshire Dales to lead a quieter existence.

However, they are now joined by hordes of fans as loyal Our Yorkshire Farm fans take "pilgrimages" to come and see the Owens.

Patricia and Ronald purchased an old farmhouse right next to the Owens' 2,000 acre site and have revealed what it's like living next to the famous faces.

When they first moved in Clive was living alone and running the farm almost single handedly, but then Amanda came along and they started to build their family.

"They are fantastic neighbours. They are there if we need them not intrusive," Mrs Tyler told Yorkshire Live, describing how they were welcomed into the community with open arms.

"The gamekeeper lives near as well and they are all very good neighbours - happy and content."

She added: "There's a different arrangement to what there is in the suburbs where you live close to each other but you don't know anyone.

"You can be more lonely in the city than a place that most people think of as isolated."

Ravenseat Farm, which is home 1,000 sheep, 40 cows, six dogs and four ponies, is along the same winding, narrow road where the Tylers live - and where Amanda gave birth to six of their kids.

With Clive and Amanda rising to fame from their reality TV show, things have started to change around where they live as tourists flock to see the family.

Explaining how Amanda gained her celebrity status, Mrs Tyler explained: "It all started when Julia Bradbury did one of her programmes down here and Amanda got to know her.

"Now that she's written her books and done everything people come down a lot now. It's almost like a pilgrimage.

"She (Amanda) has got a huge fan base. We get people who come down and if she is closed they will travel miles to get home and then come back the next day. I think people just want to see her."

Although Mrs Tyler did confess she didn't really see what all the fuss was about and can't understand why people are so interested.

"That's one of the sad things. It seems like people like to live their lives vicariously," she said.

Our Yorkshire Farm fans will be very pleased to know that the Owens are exactly the same when the cameras have stopped rolling.

Although the couple have confessed they don't actually sit down to enjoy the programme because they know all about farming life.

"We don't watch it. It's too real for us. We already know everything that happens," said Mrs Tyler.

The Tylers were living next door before the births of the nine Owen kids - Annas, Violet, Edith, Raven, Clemmy, Nancy, Reuben, Miles, and Sidney.

It took a while for them to get used the the utter isolation of living miles from civilisation but they have been helped massively by the local community.

When they first moved to the area, they have virtually no contact with the outside world and only a few years later did a new neighbour help them set up an internet connection.

A farming neighbour also advised them to always keep 12 weeks worth of food in stock, which kept them in good stead when the pandemic hit.

Mrs Tyler said: "She said: "She was so right. I have always done that ever since. It helped us tremendously during lockdown."

The couple added that a "very good hub" was set up by the locals during the pandemic so that "everything that one needed was provided".

They have also described some of the challenges they face, which Our Yorkshire Farm viewers have seen the Owen family struggle with.

"On the other hand you have to get ready for the winters, which we have learnt how to do now. One year we had eight feet of snow drifts. But as long as we can keep the power and water going it's not too difficult," said Mr Tyler.

"You definitely get an awareness of nature out here. You can't fight it, it's inevitable."

Sadly, it was announced on Instagram today that Clive and Amanda have decided to split up after 22 years of marriage.

"This hasn't been easy, but we both believe it's the right choice for the future of our family," wrote Amanda in a statement that was signed off by both of them.

"Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children."

Amanda and Clive thanked everyone for their support and asked for privacy during this "difficult time".

There had been rumours that the couple were having a rocky time in their marriage for most of this year with stories that suggested that the couple were on the rocks.

The future of Our Yorkshire Farm remains up in the air and it is not known whether either Clive or Amanda will continue filming.

However, Channel 5 released a statement after the split announcement - and it looks like they will be making eveyr effort to keep the series going.

It read "We respect the privacy of Amanda and Clive Owen at this time.

"They are very much a part of the Channel 5 family and we will continue to work with them in the future."
