CHANDIGARH: Even after the ART and Surrogacy Act was notified by the Centre a month ago, the clinics are still unable to operate in vitro fertilization (IVF) facility, as no team has been formed for inspection and other processes by the UT health department. There are some 25 IVF clinics across the tricity. Most of the patients are either going to Panchkula or other states that have been given extension for the implementation of the Act.
Haryana has been given extension until November to implement the Act, while Chandigarh and Punjab where the health department has not conveyed officially anything to them, are still waiting for an official nod.
"According to the notification, we applied for registration June end. The gazette mentioned that if there is rejection, it will be communicated after two months, the registration is done," said Dr Umesh Jindal, gynecologist and IVF specialist in the city.
