'Climate activist' deflating SUV tyres and leaving notes in one Dublin area as vehicle owners warned to remain cautious

A person is reportedly deflating tyres in one area of Dublin, with car owners urged to remain cautious.

It is said the man involved is working on behalf of a climate activist group.

At least a dozen vehicles have been allegedly targeted in the last two weeks in the Dublin 6/6W area.

These “SUV-type” vehicles have had one or more of their tyres slashed.

The perpetrator is said to be leaving notes claiming to be part of The Tyre Extinguishers, which are a group of activists against “climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers”, their website said.

Speaking on a local Facebook page, a resident said: "Warning/notice to anyone with an 'SUV-type' vehicle. This man has been going around the general D6/6W area deflating tyres and often leaving notes.

"Our road has been done twice in the last two weeks with at least a dozen vehicles affected. I also know numerous roads around the area have been similarly impacted."

The resident went on to share a picture of the note left on their car, which Dublin Live reports as: "Attention - your gas guzzler kills. We have deflated one or more of your tyres.

"[...] We did this because driving around urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others."

The note goes on to talk about the negative environmental impact of cars on the world and how the group is "taking actions into our own hands because our governments and politicians will not".

The note ends with a link to their website.

Dublin Live has contacted the Gardai for a comment.
