Clifton Suspension Bridge to mark the passing of The Queen

The chain lights of the Suspension Bridge will be switched off during the national period of mourning, it has been announced.

The UK is in mourning after Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday (September 8) at the age of 96. Elizabeth II, 96, was the nation’s longest-reigning monarch, serving as head of state for more than 70 years.

The announcement of her death was made at 6.34pm last night. Buckingham Palace's statement said the Queen 'died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon'.

The Queen's children and other members of the Royal Family travelled to Balmoral yesterday afternoon, after Buckingham Palace issued a statement at lunchtime saying doctors were concerned about her health
