The chain lights of the Suspension Bridge will be switched off during the national period of mourning, it has been announced.
The UK is in mourning after Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday (September 8) at the age of 96. Elizabeth II, 96, was the nation’s longest-reigning monarch, serving as head of state for more than 70 years.
As the nation - and the world - comes to turn with the passing of the country's longest-reigning monarch, tributes to the Queen have been flooding in from across Bristol and beyond. The Queen's first-born son, Charles, has now become King and will be known as King Charles III. He paid tribute to his "beloved mother" yesterday evening.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge announced earlier today that they would also be marking the passing of The Queen. It wrote on Twitter: "To mark the passing of Her Majesty the Queen the chain lights of the Clifton Suspension Bridge will be switched off during the national period of mourning.
"For safety reasons, the walkway, buttress and tower lights will remain on."
The official period of mourning for her death will last around 12 days and, while funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed, the public will be given the chance to pay their respects. It is expected the country will be given a bank holiday for the day of the Queen's funeral - likely to be Monday, September 19 - but it is possible schools could close for longer than that.
The announcement of her death was made at 6.34pm last night. Buckingham Palace's statement said the Queen 'died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon'.
