On March 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be hosting their second annual Bow Tie Night to raise awareness about neurofibromatosis. This event is in honor of the late Nick Gilbert, who tragically passed away in March 2023 due to complications related to neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) at the age of 26.
The Cavaliers' Bow Tie Night is presented by The Gilly Project, a community organization inspired by Nick's life. The Gilly Project aims to inspire the next generation of NF fighters and raise funds for NF Forward, a non-profit founded by the Gilbert family in 2017 with the goal of eradicating NF through research and awareness.
During the Cavaliers' game against the New York Knicks, various activations will take place to remember Nick Gilbert and raise awareness about NF. At halftime, a banner will be unveiled in honor of Nick, and a concession stand will be transformed into 'Gilly's' serving Nick's favorite food, mac & cheese.
Fans attending the game will receive a Cavs Bow Tie Night rally towel and are encouraged to wear bow ties in support of the cause. Additionally, 'What's Not to Like?' shooting shirts will be available for purchase at Center Court, with all proceeds from the 50/50 raffle going towards NF Forward.
Content related to Bow Tie Night will be shared on the Cavaliers' social media channels and integrated into the in-arena game presentation as well as the TV broadcasts on ESPN and Bally Sports Ohio.
