Clement Lenglet set for Tottenham medical as loan deal agreed with Barcelona

Tottenham are close to completing the signing of Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal.

Spurs hope Lenglet will complete a medical in the next 24 hours and sign in time to join the squad on the pre-season tour of South Korea, for which they leave on Saturday evening.

Head coach Antonio Conte made signing a left-sided centre-back a priority at the start of the summer but they were frustrated in their attempts to sign Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni, who was reluctant to leave the Serie A club.

The deal for Lenglet is not thought to include an option to buy at the end of the season, raising the possibility that Spurs' managing director Fabio Paratici could make a fresh push for Bastoni next summer.

Lenglet was surplus to requirements at Barca following the arrival of Andreas Christensen on a free transfer for Chelsea but the 15-cap France international has made over 150 appearances for the Catalan club, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

The left-footer is expected to complete with Ben Davies for a place in Conte's back three alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier, with Joe Rodon set to leave the club permanently or on loan in search of first-team football.

Spurs are also hoping to sign Middlesbrough's Djed Spence, who Conte wants as a right wing-back, before leaving for Seoul but remained locked in talks with the Championship club over the finer details of a deal for the 21-year-old.
