Clement explains why he's given Propper and Cerny first Rangers starts

Philippe Clement concedes that there aren't many teams in world football who are fully prepared at this early stage of the league season as he explained why he's given two summer recruits their first Rangers start.

The Light Blues take on Motherwell at Hampden Park this afternoon, looking to build on their 0-0 draw with Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership opener last weekend.

Both Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny come into the Rangers team today, but Clement reckons he's going to have to utilise his entire squad until he brings in more reinforcements amid balancing domestic action and their quest to seal a return to UEFA Champions League group stage football.

"You know at this moment it's not possible for all squads to have top moments," the Belgian told BBC Scotland.

"We need to just look at today and what is necessary and Tuesday (against Dynamo Kyiv) also, I will have to make choices about that; who to start, who to bring in during this game to be ready for Tuesday. So, it's making a good puzzle to get a good result.

"We have to divide our powers between the players in the squad because they are no teams in the world for the moment ready to play nine games in four weeks with the same starting XI. It's just not possible, so it's about everybody being ready and doing the job for us."

Propper sat out the last two games following his arrival from FC Twente, but replaces Leon Balogun in the starting XI this afternoon.

While fellow summer recruit, Cerny, takes Ross McCausland's place on the Rangers right wing.

Asked what the duo will offer, Clement stated: "Propper is somebody with good football qualities, who has good leadership and good coaching. Of course he needs to get to know the other players, he needs to get to know the league and everything, but it's important for him to get the experience now.

"And Cerny, who you have already saw, is someone with very good technical qualities. He works hard for the team also, he has speed, has individual actions, and he can score goals and assist."
