Clegg Construction wins £10m Avery Healthcare contract to build Peterborough care home

Nottingham contractor Clegg Construction has won a £10m contract to build a new Peterborough care home for Avery Healthcare.

Avery has more than 50 homes across the country and has several more in development to help meet rising national demand for residential care services.

The 80-bed facility will be located within a larger development known as Hampton Gardens, which includes a convenience store, residential accommodation, and a children’s nursery.

It will be the third care home facility Clegg has been appointed to build in partnership with Avery Healthcare, following contracts in Derby and Norwich which are currently taking shape.

Simon Langley, contracts manager at Clegg, said: “As an attractive city boasting a wide range of amenities, Peterborough is a popular choice for older people looking to enjoy their retirement.

“It is, therefore, imperative that we provide first-class care accommodation that is safe and secure, so that individuals in need of residential care can continue to live full and independent lives.

“This is what we’re aiming to create at Hampton Gardens in partnership with Avery Healthcare.”

The development will include a café, cinema, hairdressing salon, light communal rooms for residents and visitors, as well as a secure landscaped garden.

All the bedrooms will have en-suite bathrooms, and the entire facility will be a dementia-friendly environment.

Mr Langley said the three-storey facility is being designed to make efficient use of space available on site, and to limit the visual impact on neighbouring homes.

He said: “The proposed development offers a contemporary-styled care home facility that will be built to high standards to meet the much-needed demand for residential care facilities in Hampton Gardens and the wider area.

“We’re delighted we have been selected to build another person-centric care home for Avery and are very much looking forward to starting work.”

Adrian Doyle, director of developments at Avery Healthcare Group, said: “We are delighted to be working with Clegg Construction, with whom we hold an excellent relationship. We are looking forward to commencing works as soon as possible to see this exciting project unfold.”

Established in the 1930s, Clegg Construction is headquartered in Nottingham and has regional bases in Cambridge and Leeds.

The company works across sectors including healthcare, education, leisure, industrial, accommodation and public sector, and over the past three years have delivered major construction projects in partnership with several nation-leading healthcare providers including Avery Healthcare, Barchester Healthcare, and Care UK.
