An Ayrshire supermarket has been stocking milk cartons with colourless lids.
The clear or transparent tops have been slowly introduced at some of the country's biggest shops.
The green semi-skimmed cartons have been given a new look in a bid to the containers easier to recycle.
Experts say that coloured lids are more difficult to re-use and the clear tops will make it easier to repurpose cartons once they've been used.
However, it's understood that coloured caps are fully recyclable if attached to the bottle during recycling.
The Kilmarnock Tesco Extra is among the first in the region to start stocking the new-look cartons on its own-brand milk.
However, a number of supermarkets have launched trials into switching the lids on milk cartons.
As Aldi launched its trial last year, plastics and packaging director Richard Gorman said: "By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging."
Scott Davey, senior buying director at Lidl added: "We remain committed to supporting our customers in helping them make more sustainable shopping decisions on a daily basis. Customer feedback during the trial was overwhelmingly positive and we are thrilled to be making this change permanent across Lidl stores.
"In addition, this move will help us achieve our goal of making more of the plastic we use circular and fit to be repurposed time and time again."
It's understood that Tesco customers will start to see clear plastic lids on the supermarket's own brand semi-skimmed milk.
However, lids on skimmed and whole milk will remain red and blue, respectively, to help with easy identification.
