Thousands lose power as storm hits outback town

A severe storm has ripped through Alice Springs, leaving thousands of properties without power. (Aaron Bunch/AAP PHOTOS)

Power is being restored to thousands of homes after a severe storm swept through an outback town, toppling trees and power lines.

Extra emergency crews have been sent to Alice Springs after it was pelted with large hailstones on Monday, causing widespread damage.
