If you had issues getting Claude to respond earlier today, you weren't alone. Reports on Down Detector for Anthropic's popular AI assistant spiked as of 10:29am ET / 3.29am GMT to over 1,400 reports.
I was having trouble getting my free Claude to respond to queries across desktop and mobile. And a friend on the Claude Max 5x account was getting a "Something went wrong" message, then being asked to try again.
Anthropic, to its credit, was quick to acknowledge the issue and provide updates. About two hours after confirming it, the issue was marked as resolved. Ahead, you can read our live reporting on the outage as it happened below.
Anthropic is investigating the issue
Anthropic has issued another update just a few minutes ago, confirming that the disruption affecting Claude is still active and that it is "continuing to investigate this issue." You can see Claude's official status page here, and a screenshot below.

On my free account, Claude is taking a good bit to respond right now, and then eventually delivers an error. The option there is to reask the question and then essentially try again.
My friend on the Max 5x plan from Claude shared the screenshot below with me showing the 'Something went wrong' error.
As a timer, we're over an hour in now since reports started, and it also appears to be impacting signing into Claude. I'm getting a "We are experiencing delivery issues with some email providers and are working to resolve this" error when trying to sign into my account on another device.
Let me know in the comments below if this issue is impacting your Claude account.

Anthropic has issued another update on the Claude status page:
"Update - We're currently investigating issues with Claude Code and Claude.ai. Some users may be unable to log in, and others may experience slower than usual performance. The Claude API is not affected."
Good news: the team at Anthropic is on it and investigating. It's also really appreciated that it's actively updating the status page, and it seems the disruptions today are centered within Claude.ai and Claude Code, resulting in slower responses and not being able to log in. This update was posted at 11:44 AM ET and notes that the API is not impacted.
Down Detector reports for Claude are starting to drop slightly, though they remain elevated compared to a normal day for the service. As of 11:33 AM ET, the latest update on Down Detector, Claude is at 1,387 reports on the platform.

We're still waiting on another update from Anthropic on the elevated error rates with Claude, and while I'm still having difficulties with a free account on the web, my colleague Lance Ulanoff – TechRadar's Editor-at-Large – let me know that Claude on mobile is working just fine. Specifically, with the app on iOS.

Down Detector reports have dropped to under 1,000, currently at a little over 900. Lance has also shared the screenshot below, but Claude is back to working on the web on a desktop again.
We're still waiting on another update from Anthropic, but it might be that Claude is recovering.

A fix is being implemented
Along with Claude coming back for many, and Down Detector reports dropping, Anthropic has updated the status page to note that the issue has been identified and that a fix is being rolled out now.
"Identified - The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented."
