Clan were edged out again in a five-goal game as Sheffield Steelers claimed a 3-2 win in England on Sunday night.
While there was no overtime on this occasion, Aaron Fox’s men did just enough to secure the win that keeps their title aspirations alive.
But it ended the weekend on a low note for Clan who suffered their second defeat in as many days.
The early signs in this latest meeting of the two clubs was it was going to be a tight affair and so it proved to be, with Steelers not quite getting the joy in front of goal they were looking for.
Early opportunities from John Armstrong and Justin Hodgman were dealt with, then Robert Dowd’s attempt was moved on by Shane Starrett’s glove.
Colton Yellow Horn threatened up the other end, but was denied just as he was lining up for the shot by Adrian Saxrud Danielsen, who read the play and got a timely block in.
However the home team were in the lead after 24 minutes when Matias Sointu’s cutback across the Clan crease found Hodgman, who lifted it into the net.
Starrett came up with a huge save a few minutes later when Hodgman turned provider for Tanner Eberle, who almost couldn’t believe Clan’s goalie had got himself across the crease to deny him.
Clan got themselves on level terms, taking advantage on a four-on-three powerplay as they put on the pressure.
It resulted in a pass from Mitch Jones that he snapped into the net and Malcolm Cameron’s team had equalised.
A chance from Tim Shoup on the one-timer was stopped well by Stojanovic, but the Steelers were celebrating again shortly after.
Sointu’s shot on goal popped away from Starrett, allowing British D-man Sam Jones to execute the finish and put Sheffield 2-1 ahead after two periods.
Glasgow restored parity again early in the third through Braylon Shmyr, with his second since signing for the club, taking on a pass from Dyson Stevenson to make it 2-2.
There was tension as the clock ticked down but, once more, the Steelers edged in front with a shot from Marc-Olivier Vallerand on target with five minutes to go.
Despite Clan pulling Starrett late on in an attempt to get level again, Sheffield held on to take the points.
On Saturday night Clan were on the wrong side of a goal fest at the Braehead Arena as Coventry Blaze ran out 6-4 winners.
Mitch Jones, Guillaume Gauthier, Tim Shoup and Nolan Laporte were on the scoresheet for the home side as the Braehead Arena outfit suffered a painful double defeat weekend.
