Claimant in Rebel Wilson defamation case plans to appeal against ruling

Actor and director Rebel Wilson was cleared in court but an appeal has been filed (Jeff Moore/PA) - (PA Wire)

The Deb actor Charlotte MacInnes, who accused director Rebel Wilson of defaming her, is to appeal against a ruling in an Australian court that found Wilson not guilty.

Wilson was cleared after MacInnes alleged she defamed her or breached her confidence in four social media posts by allegedly falsely suggesting she had withdrawn a sexual harassment complaint against one of the film’s producers to advance her career.

The judge ruled that none of Wilson’s posts were defamatory, and dismissed the case, ordering MacInnes to pay costs.

Wilson still faces another defamation case in California in the US in October against The Deb’s producer Amanda Ghost, actor Gregor Cameron and executive producer Vince Holden.

Released in Australia in April, The Deb, which was Wilson’s directorial debut, follows two teenage cousins as they look for self-acceptance and a date to the debutante ball in a small country town in Australia.

Wilson has been contacted for comment.
