CJM allows Himanta Biswa Sarma time till March 21 to appear in MCC flout case

GUWAHATI: The chief judicial magistrate, Kamrup (Metro), on Friday allowed chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s prayer seeking time to appear before the court in an alleged case of violation of model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha election in 2019.

He said he could not appear on Friday as he was busy with President Ram Nath Kovind’s programme in Guwahati. The court directed him to appear before it on March 21. The summons was issued to Sarma based on a case filed by additional chief electoral officer after receiving complaints from the then president and general secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee that Sarma had given an interview in a local channel within 48 hours of the first phase of the polls when the model code of conduct was in force.
