Liverpool and the rest of Merseyside were horrified after a shooting and stabbing of two teenagers.

Officers moved to reassure parents and the community at a press conference earlier this week and said they were "doing everything" to progress the investigation "at pace".

Police have conducted warrants and officers have been "out in greater numbers" within the L8 area.

After the incident, parents described their shock, one mum said: "I think we need more security now because it's getting more rampant, especially in this area."

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

An 18-year-old man from Toxteth was arrested on Friday, March 4 on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A 27-year-old man from Toxteth who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm without a certificate has now been released under investigation.

The 21-year-old man from Toxteth who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, earlier this week, has also been released under investigation.

A 60-year-old man from Toxteth who had earlier been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has now been released under investigation.

At a press conference after the shooting Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen said police believe multiple shots were fired by one or more people.

The shots are believed to have been fired by people who were riding electric bikes at the time of the incident.

Police are looking for people on 'up to four bikes' that were dressed in dark clothing, and wearing face masks or face coverings, like a balaclava.

On Thursday, March 3, a boy was stabbed at West Derby School leading to another huge response from emergency services.

Merseyside Police confirmed a boy had been stabbed in the buttocks and also suffered a slash wound to the wrist.

Emergency services were called at around 3pm to the all boys high school in Tuebrook, when students were leaving at the end of the day.

A large police cordon was put in place whilst officers attended the scene and forensics were seen taking photographs and examining the area.

Local residents said they were "concerned" upon seeing the police presence as there's "typically no trouble".

One parent said the school is "really safe".

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries and was described as being in a stable condition. He has since been released.

Another teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and was taken to for police questioning.

He has been released on conditional bail.

Cllr Joseph Dunne described the incident as "shocking", a term echoed right across Merseyside.

Staff at West Derby School sent out an important message to worried parents after the attack on Thursday.

The letter read: "Dear parents and carers, we are aware there was an altercation outside the school today, and we are currently working with the police on this matter.

"I will speak to all children in the morning to reassure them. Many thanks."

Detective Inspector Jennie Beck said: "Although an arrest has been made, our enquiries continue, and we’d still urge anyone who witnessed the incident, saw any suspicious behaviour, to please contact us. Either tell us directly or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

"The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

"I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime."

The force confirmed on Thursday the weapon had been "recovered".

Anyone with information or who witnessed the two incidents are being urged to report it to Merseyside Police.
