An award-winning Newcastle bar is boasting new additions to its cocktail and food menus.
No. 28, which claims to be known as Newcastle’s “finest hidden gem”, opened in 2010 in the heart of the city centre - but even locals may not notice the bar unless they know where to look.
Accessed via a staircase hidden inside the entrance to the Grainger Market on Nelson Street, the quirky bar’s ethos is to “bring something a little different to Newcastle’s hospitality scene.”

The “fiercely independent” venue received a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice award last year, recognising it as among the best places to visit in Newcastle based on visitor reviews.
No. 28 has been shaking things up this year with the launch of their new menu at the end of January, which includes a variety of tapas dishes.
The menu features traditional Spanish-inspired bites such as patatas bravas, calamari and albondigas, all served up with chef’s own recipe aioli and tomato sauces.

They are also serving up their own twist on savoury snacks to fuel a night out on the toon, from black pudding tempura fritters to chicken wings coated in a crispy, sticky Jack Daniel’s glaze.
They are encouraging customers to come and try the new dishes with special deals, including an early doors offer of any tapas dish with patatas bravas and a bottle of beer or a glass of prosecco or wine for £10.
There’s also a “Couples Feast” deal which offers any four tapas dishes with patatas bravas, artisan bread, salad and a drink for £30.
As well as these new nibbles, visitors can look forward to more than a dozen new additions to No. 28’s cocktail menu.
New fruity signature cocktails include a mash-up of two classics the Porn Star Margarita, the apple and bubblegum-flavoured Bonita Applegum, and chocolatey cosmopolitan Midnight Chocolate Cosmos with classic cranberry and lime.
For something strong or sweet to chase the tapas there’s also the likes of the banana and walnut Espresso Martini or the Turkish Delight-flavoured No. 28 Garden Martini. All cocktails come with a free shot of prosecco.

No. 28 also boasts “the best boozy afternoon tea in town” with sandwiches, scones and cakes served up alongside cocktails, as well as claiming to be Newcastle’s original bottomless prosecco brunch venue.
The bar is open seven days a week until 3am, and weekends see the venue transform into a nightclub with music from a live DJ.
