Italian striker Ciro Immobile has bid farewell to Lazio after an illustrious eight-year stint with the club, as he embarks on a new chapter with Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas. The move was officially confirmed by Besiktas, with Immobile signing a two-year contract with the club. Lazio is said to have received a reported fee of around €3 million ($3.27m) for the transfer.
Immobile, 34, joined Lazio in 2016 from Sevilla and went on to etch his name in the club's history books by scoring an impressive 207 goals, making him the all-time leading goal scorer for Lazio. During his time at the club, he also clinched the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup titles twice.
Expressing his emotions as he bid adieu to Lazio, Immobile acknowledged the unwavering support of the fans, stating, 'An exceptional journey, but like all beautiful stories there's a beginning and an end. The fans have been fantastic, they've given me everything.'
Despite captaining Lazio through a challenging season that culminated in a disappointing seventh-place finish in Serie A, Immobile emphasized that his departure was a decision made calmly and without any ill feelings. He reflected on the difficulties he faced due to injuries in the past season, indicating that it was the right time for a change.
In a heartfelt farewell message to the club and its supporters, Immobile expressed his gratitude and affection, saying, 'I think the moment has come to say not goodbye, but see you again. This will always remain my home. I will cheer you on. I am a Lazio fan. I send hugs and hope to see you soon.'
