'Circus club' - Manchester United fans react to Barcelona's bizarre Frenkie de Jong claims

Manchester United fans have been reacting to the news Barcelona president Joan Laporta has publicly contradicted his club's director of football, Mateu Alemany, by claiming they are not in a position to need to sell players this summer.

As has been reported by the Manchester Evening News, United and Barcelona have agreed terms for the transfer of Frenkie de Jong as he looks to reunite with former coach Erik ten Hag. Despite having agreed on a fee, United and De Jong are yet to agree personal terms.

In another twist to a transfer story that has already rumbled on for two months now, Laporta has gone against an earlier statement put out by director of football Alemany.

When asked about United's interest in De Jong, Alemany said: "Frenkie is a very important player. We totally count on him, but Fair Play forces us to sell players".

However, Barcelona's president disagreed with this, saying: "It’s not true that we are forced to sell Frenkie de Jong, this is not correct. Frenkie’s trip to the United States will be decided by Xavi."

United fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the incredible situation their club find themselves in as they look to thrash out a deal with Barca.
