Cillian Sheridan's hilarious response to Rangers qualifying for Champions League

Wednesday night's long-awaited Champions League success for Rangers understandably triggered euphoric celebrations among their squad as well as the Gers fanbase as a whole.

They prevailed in Eindhoven against a wasteful PSV side thanks to Antonio Colak filling in brilliantly for dropped star Alfredo Morelos as he scored the game's only goal, thereby securing a 3-2 victory on aggregate.

It's the first time the Glaswegian giants have made it to the group stages of Europe's elite club competition since 2010.

Coincidentally, it'll be the first time that both Old Firm sides will be in it since the 2007/08 campaign.

And it was a former Ireland striker with Celtic ties that ruffled a few feathers with his sarcastic response to the Gers success last night.

Cillian Sheridan tweeted: "Jeez relax, even I’ve played in that competition."

The journeyman forward's post went down a treat with Hoops fans while slightly getting under the skin of some Rangers supporters.

Both Celtic and Rangers will find out who they'll face in this year's group stages later on today.

The draw, which takes place at 5 pm Irish time, will be held in Istanbul.

BT Sport 1 will show the draw live, with their coverage starting at 4.45pm. You can also follow updates with the Irish Mirror's live blog.

The Old Firm sides are in Pot 4 alongside Dinamo Zagreb, Marseille, FC Copenhagen, Club Brugge, Viktoria Plzen and Maccabi Haifa.

In terms of glamour ties, they're both fairly assured of landing at least one between Real Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, Manchester City, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, FC Porto, and Ajax being in Pot 1 while Pot 2 is comprised of Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, RB Leipzig and Tottenham Hotspur.

Meanwhile Pot 3 boasts the likes of Borussia Dortmund, FC Salzburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter Milan, Napoli, Benfica, Sporting CP and Bayer Leverkusen.

Celtic captain Callum McGregor: “We’ve played quite a few big teams but probably the one most of the Celtic fans would like is Real Madrid. I’ve not played against them yet but we know anybody we get drawn against will be a top team and a big challenge for us.”

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst: “I know what it means for the fans, for the club, to be playing in the highest level in Europe, competing with the best teams.

“I think it is a proud moment for all of us.

“I have played many games as a player, coached my team Feyenoord in the Champions League and now I have the opportunity to experience it with Rangers so it is very proud moment.”
