Christopher Nkunku shows why Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with summer transfer

Arsenal are set for a big summer ahead of them, with a number of signings linked with a move to the Emirates. While several positions may need looking at, one area appears to be the priority for Mikel Arteta.

That is in the attacking positions, more specifically at striker. Former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club in January for Barcelona and with duo Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave as free agents, Folarin Balogun is left as the only natural centre-forward option.

While Arteta could have looked to sign a striker in January, the Gunners didn’t end up making a single transfer, something that the manager defended shortly after. He said: “Edu and his team have done a great job. We are very clear we only want the best people and the best players at this club.”

In light of that, several players have been linked, including one exciting forward from the Bundesliga. That is RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku, 24, can play as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker in a two up front, bringing some versatility to the table. The Frenchman’s style of play allows him to work well in tight areas, often disrupting the opposition with his speed of movement, passing and dribbling ability.

Not only is he good with the ball, but his end product is clearly on display in the Bundesliga too. The forward has 29 goal involvements in 28 appearances, averaging just over one goal or assist every 90 minutes.

His record has been so impressive that he recently received a first call up to the France senior national team last month, no mean feat considering the strength of the squad. His latest performance as Leipzig thrashed second-placed Borussia Dortmund 4-1 away from home only further showcased his ability.

Nkunku managed to score and grab two assists during the game, spinning the Dortmund defence in circles while making it look so easy. It’s no wonder that Arsenal, along with a number of other clubs, have been linked with a move for the forward. Whether they settle on signing him remains to be seen, but the forward has shown he has a bright future ahead.
