LadBaby's record-breaking fifth consecutive Christmas number one could be under threat, with Wham and Mariah Carey's festive classics narrowing the gap. George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley’s hit Last Christmas is currently 13,000 chart units behind LadBaby's charity track, while Carey's classic is 600 behind them, the Official Charts Company said.
Social media star Mark Hoyle and his wife Roxanne (LadBaby Mum) are bidding to continue their streak after making chart history last year by securing the Christmas number one for the fourth time in a row. Alongside MoneySavingExpert's Martin Lewis, the couple are the first act that have been allowed to rework the Band Aid Christmas classic after getting permission from Bob Geldof, Midge Ure and the Band Aid Trust.
The single, titled 'Food Aid', is raising money for food bank provider the Trussell Trust and the aforementioned Band Aid Trust.
Meanwhile, Ridgeley, formerly of Wham', said that his former bandmate Michael would have loved it if their 1984 hit at last reached the festive top spot, infamously being kept at number two by Band Aid. The song reached number one on New Year's Day in 2021, which at the time broke a chart record for the longest period a track has taken to top the singles chart, which has since been beaten by Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill'.
Queen of Christmas Carey is also in the running for the number one spot with hit 'All I Want For Christmas Is You', marginally trailing Wham.
Meanwhile, five chart titans are battling it out in the race for the Official Christmas number one album with just 1400 chart units separating Taylor Swift, Sir Cliff Richard, Michael Buble, George Ezra and Sam Ryder.
