It's been 20 years since Christina Aguilera released body empowering track Beautiful — and a lot has changed in the world since then.
And so it's no surprise that the 90s hit maker has opted to remake the video to update her message taking aim at the affect of social media on mental health — making it once again relevant for those struggling with body confidence and self esteem.
The Grammy award winning artist, 41, revisits familiar themes with a modern twist as young dancers are seen recording makeup tutorials in front of a ring lights, a teen is struggling with self-harm in a hospital bed and girls' faces are marked up for surgery.
The powerful video also pushes mobile phones to the forefront of its action with young people portrayed watching events unfold on screens.
The release, which was timed for World Mental Health Day, does, however, end on an uplifting note as those struggling with their issues remove enhancements and negative images and play outside in the sunshine without their mobile phones.
The video also contains a warning message which reads: "In the last 20 years, since 'Stripped' was first released, social media has transformed our relationship with our bodies, and in turn our mental health.
"Research suggests that time spent on social networking sites is associated with body image issues, self-harm and disordered eating in children and teens."
"This needs to change," the video concludes.
And the 41-year-old expanded on this to fans on Instagram with a message ahead of the new visuals release.
She penned: "We are Beautiful, no matter what they say. A message I will always stand by and a message I prioritize to instill in my own children through every chapter of their lives! [sic]
"Today, it’s harder than ever to hear our own voice amongst so many others infiltrating our feeds and minds with mixed messaging... ultimately leading us to tune-out our own truth and self worth.
"The original ‘’Beautiful” video set out to bring awareness and a sense of compassion in the face of judgment, criticism, and outside opinions. It still carries an important message to remember our core values outside of what’s being fed to us…to find a sense of balance and accepting ourselves for who we are."
The singer also pledged to support the International Mental Health Association, HelpGuide and the Trans Lifeline in the US with $1 from every 20th Anniversary Edition vinyl sold will also be donated to Trans Lifeline "to help trans people survive and thrive".
