Christian Pulisic leads Chelsea summer transfer exodus plan as Todd Boehly eyes £44m windfall

Christian Pulisic looks set to be one of the first players to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window, according to reports. The 24-year-old faces an increasingly uncertain future at Stamford Bridge as Todd Boehly continues to bolster Graham Potter's side with an array of attacking talent.

The United States international, who sees his contract expire in 2024, has featured 16 times for the Blues in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards two goals. While Pulisic has suffered an injury-ridden campaign thus far, the arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke last month cast doubt over the number of first-team minutes he'll be given.

With an exit from west London on the cards, ESPN state that Pulisic is set to spearhead a summer exodus as Chelsea look to streamline the squad. The report states that the £44million-rated winger was open to leaving Stamford Bridge in January, with Manchester United and Newcastle eyeing a move.

But, a departure failed to materialise after he picked up an injury early into the transfer window. Pulisic came off second best in a collision with John Stones when Chelsea faced Manchester City in the Premier League.

A few days later, Potter confirmed that the winger would be out for 'weeks'. The Blues boss said: "Christian opened up his knee in the game the other day, so we're still analysing it, but it is going to be weeks."

Then, last week, Pulisic posted an image on himself on Instagram, teasing his return. He simply captioned his post: "Back soon."

Ahead of the January transfer window, former United States international Eric Wynalda told Pulisic to join Newcastle. Speaking to the Vegas Insider, as quoted by Newcastle World, Wynalda said: "I think if he ends up making a move in January, after the World Cup, I am starting to lean more and more towards the direction of Newcastle.

"Things that I am hearing about the money they are going to splash is interesting. I don’t think Leeds, for example, would be a good spot for him.

"That’s not a team that is going to score a ton of goals. He’s going to be on the end of a lot of quality if he stays at Chelsea, he’s just not going to get the minutes that would equate to big numbers."

Eddie Howe's side welcomed Anthony Gordon to St James' Park last month. While it remains to be seen, a move to Tyneside could now be off the cards for Pulisic.
