Former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has penned a short message after he found the net on an emotional return for Denmark on Saturday evening. The 30-year-old was named on the bench for his nation for their friendly clash with the Netherlands in Amsterdam, remarkably less than a year after he collapsed at Euro 2020.
The now Brentford midfielder had suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s group stage clash with Finland but thankfully made a full recovery. Despite doubts over his future in the game having been forced to exit Inter Milan, he made an emotional return to football having signed a short-term deal with Premier League outfit Brentford late in the January transfer window.
Eriksen’s dramatic return then continued during the latest international break as not only did he return to the pitch for Denmark, he then found the back of the net as he powered home Andreas Skov Olsen’s low cross in the 47th minute of the clash. Following the final whistle, he wrote a short message on Twitter describing how he had missed the feeling of seeing the ball hit the net once again.
