Christian Eriksen praise following France victory proves Manchester United teammates right

After an impressive season with Brentford last season - where he registered a goal and four assists in 11 appearances - Christian Eriksen made the move to Manchester United.

The Denmark international, who returned to football after having an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) fitted following his cardiac arrest at last summer's Euros, could have remained with the Bees, but he was keen to test himself at the top level once again.

His United career didn't get off to the best start, with Erik ten Hag's side losing their opening two matches against Brentford and Brighton. Despite this, while a number of his teammates were criticised for their individual performances, the 30-year-old was praised for his individual showings - even if they came in defeats.

Since then, the Reds have gone on to find their last four successive Premier League matches, and have delivered a number of much-improved performances. Eriksen, alongside Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay in midfield, has continued to show his class. The Dane already appears undroppable for United, and he has continued to impress while on international duty.

While Denmark were unable to find a way past Croatia on Thursday last week, Eriksen's wondergoal got supporters understandably excited. His overall performance was lauded and his second-half strike showed he still has the ability to impact the game with goals.

His individual showing against France on Sunday also led to widespread praise. Although he didn't get on the scoresheet, he controlled the game for his country and dictated the play for 90 minutes. Before the game, Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps spoke glowingly about the midfielder, insisting that he has been taken back by his work rate and endurance.

"There is an attacking player who even surprised me, and not just because of what had happened that could have been dramatic for him, and obviously it’s Christian Eriksen," said Deschamps.

"But the ability that he shows with his club in the position he plays, because he has always been someone who has a remarkable technical ability.

"But to play so frequently for his club in the midfield, to see the volume of games he plays, this ability even to recover is impressive. And he has always had the ability to score goals, to make other players score – he has always had that."

The France manager's comments echo what several pundits have said about the former Tottenham man in recent weeks, as well as what three of his United teammates stated after his signing was confirmed in July.

Speaking about the Reds announced Eriksen, Brazilian midfielder Fred told club media: "Great player! We all know of his quality. He's got the ability, a great player, attacking, strikes the ball well, knows where the goal is."

Fred continued to sing the Dane’s praises, adding: "He'll add to the team and he'll be made very welcome in our team, at Manchester United. Together we can achieve our goals.

"He's a very experienced player, I'm sure he'll contribute a lot. He seems like a great person and will add to our group. I'm fully behind him. We want to achieve our goals together and he can add a lot to our team."

He was not the only one to express his delight about the addition, with Anthony Elanga saying: "Another Scandinavian in the team is special. "That makes three of us now (alongside him and Victor Lindelof) in the team and it’ll be nice to meet him and play with him.

"He’s a special player, a really good player and I’ve played against him. I had the honour to play against him last season and you could see his qualities from there. I feel like he’ll be a great contributor to the team.

"I’m really looking forward to playing with him [Eriksen] and hopefully he’ll put some balls in behind for me to run on to. That will be nice!"

Fernandes, who has lined-up alongside Eriksen in midfield so far this term, previously claimed that he was excited to learn from the Denmark international.

"I always learn from players who play similar positions as me," Fernandes stated.

"Christian has been an amazing player in the past and last season when he played for Brentford."

If Ten Hag's side are to continue improving and progressing this season, Eriksen will be absolutely vital. His teammates, pundits and coaches knew that he had everything needed to be a success at Old Trafford, and his performances on the international stage are showing exactly why the Reds were do desperate to secure his services.
