A reporter who witnessed Tennessee's attempt to execute Christa Pike on 30 September said witnesses could still hear her breathing after prison officials administered lethal-injection drugs.
'We could all hear her breathing,' Catherine Sweeney, a reporter for Nashville Public Radio's WPLN News, told NPR. Pike, 50, survived the procedure at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
