Christa Pike, 50, is on a ventilator, her lawyer says, as her legal team seeks a life sentence after a failed execution. She remained unconscious and critically ill following Tennessee's failed attempt to execute her on 30 September, her lawyer said on 4 October. Stephen Ferrell warned that she might not fully recover if she regained consciousness.
Ferrell, an assistant federal defender representing Pike, told CNN's 'State of the Union' that she was still in hospital on a ventilator. Asked whether she had regained consciousness after the execution attempt, he replied: 'Not that I am aware of, no.'
