Chrissy Teigen has admitted that her son Jack's death in September 2020 was the result of an abortion, not a miscarriage as she previously stated.
Teigen had previously said she was left devastated when her and soul singer husband John Legend's son passed at 20 weeks from the spontaneous loss of pregnancy.
But on Thursday she said: "Let's just call it what it was. It was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance.
"And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago."
The 36-year-old was a guest speaker at the A Day of Unreasonable Conversation summit put on by social impact agency, Propper Daley.
She recalled: “Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions.
"It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn’t either without any medical intervention," said Teigen, who shares Luna, 6, and Miles, 4, with Legend and is currently pregnant.
Teigen had previously said that Jack died as a result of complications caused by a partial placental abruption, which is when the placenta detaches from the womb depriving the baby of oxygen and causing heavy bleeding in the mother.
Although she claims she long considered Jack's death a miscarriage, she said that it was Legend who helped her realise it was an abortion amid the Supreme Court decision in June to overturn Roe V. Wade, which protected the right to terminate a pregnancy.
"I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn't made sense of it that way," she said.
"I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage.
"And I became really frustrated that I didn't, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion."
In the final weeks of her pregnancy with Jack, the star took to Instagram to share her concerns over complications she was experiencing, including uncontrollable bleeding.
She eventually revealed: "I love being pregnant, so so much, and I'm sad I never will be again."
Despite claiming she would not be able to conceive again, earlier this year, she informed fans that she was undergoing IVF treatment and later confirmed she and Legend were expecting their fourth child together.
