Chris Young charges dropped after alleged Nashville bar altercation

FILE - Chris Young performs at the 56th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Friday April 16, 2021 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. A district attorney in Tennessee has dropped charges

Country star Chris Young has expressed his gratitude to fans after charges against him related to a Nashville bar arrest were dropped. Last week, Young was cleared of all charges following an alleged altercation with police officers at the DawgHouse Saloon. In a video posted on social media, the 38-year-old singer thanked his supporters for their 'love and support' throughout the ordeal.

Young stated, 'I’m still processing a lot through the false accusations and everything that went on in the past week. But I wanted to say first and foremost, thank you to everybody that had my back.' He went on to express his appreciation for the outpouring of love and support he received from friends and fans. The dismissal of the charges was a bright spot for Young, who admitted that going through such an experience was something he wouldn't wish on anyone.

In a surprise announcement, Young revealed that he will be releasing a new song titled 'Double Down' from his upcoming album Young Love & Saturday Nights. The song is scheduled to drop on Friday, providing fans with some fresh music to enjoy. Young expressed his hope that his fans will enjoy the new track and encouraged them to crank up the volume.

Last week, Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk released a statement stating that the charges against Young would be dismissed. This decision came after a thorough review of all the evidence in the case. The original charges against Young included disorderly conduct, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Young's arrest occurred after he and his friends allegedly followed Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents from Tin Roof bar to DawgHouse. The affidavit stated that Young engaged in a conversation with the TABC agents while they were checking the ABC cards at the Tin Roof bar. He even filmed the moment. However, trouble arose when the agents were leaving the DawgHouse location. Young allegedly reached out and 'struck' one of the agents on the shoulder, leading to a chaotic situation.

However, a video obtained by PEOPLE contradicted some of the details provided in the arrest affidavit. The video shows Young reaching out to the TABC agent, who then shoved him, causing Young to fall backward over a table and chair. Young can be seen standing up, putting his hands up, and backing away, while calmly questioning the situation as he is arrested.

Following the announcement by District Attorney Funk, Young's attorney, Bill Ramsey, released a statement expressing their gratification with the decision. Ramsey stated, 'Mr. Young and I are gratified with the DA's decision clearing him of the charges and any wrong-doing.'

Fans of Chris Young can now look forward to the release of his new song 'Double Down' and his upcoming album Young Love & Saturday Nights, which is set to be released on March 22. Despite the recent ordeal, Young remains grateful for the unwavering support of his fans and is excited to continue sharing his music with them.
