Chris Wood tells of his Newcastle United relief after Wolves winner

Chris Wood has spoken of his relief after blasting home the winning goal against Wolves. The Magpies are now on the brink of safety in the Premier League as they sit on 34 points and in fairness they are looking up the table rather than over their shoulders.

Speaking after his winning strike, Wood said: "It is fantastic. There is something about playing in front of St James' Park and we want to get them up for it.

"Luckily today we did. It helps when you play those teams you do well against."

Speaking to Sky Sports he reflected on the situation at the bottom, he said: "It is always good to score as a striker but ultimately we need points to get out of relegation battle and to build next season. It is getting closer.

"We want this club to go to the next level. We need to get to 40 points and then build."
