Chris Sutton reckons Celtic have gone through a "fall from grace" in the midst of their Champions League failures.
The Hoops lost to LASK in what was an almighty collapse in the second-leg and Sutton remains steadfast in his belief that his old club failed to prepare properly for the tournament playoff.
Celts now face Ferencvaros in the Europa League - the secondary competition - and ambition has come up again where the boardroom at Parkhead are concerned.
The Scottish champions were once a regular at the top table and Sutton feels that has been an almighty drop.
He told the Daily Record: “The Celtic team have to compete in the Europa. This comes back to the old ambition argument. What do you want to be as a club?
“It wasn't so long ago that we were talking about wanting Celtic to make that next step in the Champions League.
“Then you're asking a question about whether Celtic should put a full side out in the Europa League. That's a remarkable fall from grace, isn't it?
“Most Celtic fans I know are still pretty peed off about the Champions League and the lack of activity going on with regards to transfers at the start of the season.
“So it only takes a result or two for things to change and, if Celtic don't win against Ferencvaros, then the pressure is going to build on the club.
“And then if Celtic end up losing to Rangers next weekend, 60,000 home fans, we know where the anger will be directed. And it will be an angry place.
“But it's lovely football because they have the opportunity next Sunday to to turn things around and they'll be desperate to make sure that they roll Rangers over. Next Sunday is the chance to put things right and that's the only way you can think. It’s always about the next game.
“But if they lose on Thursday or don't have a positive display, then, you know it's the nature of playing for Celtic, the pressure can build very, very quickly.”
