Chris Sutton laps up Kenny Miller's Rangers 'toe-to-toe' Celtic claim

Chris Sutton has rubbished Kenny Miller's 'toe-to-toe' Celtic vs Rangers claim.

The former Hoops and Gers striker insisted that Michael Beale has matched up against Ange Postecoglou since he joined as permanent manager at Ibrox in November last year.

Rangers will finish the season trophyless after Celtic won their second successive League Cup and Premiership title.

They are of course bidding to make it a treble when they take on Inverness in the Scottish Cup final at the start of June.

And of the six derby matches that have taken place between the Glasgow giants this season, Celtic won four and drew won. Rangers managed to notch one win in the fixture, coming last week at Ibrox.

However, despite some of these statistics, Miller believes Beale has shown he can match up against Postecoglou.

But Sutton has taken to social media to essentially diminish the claims.

He tweeted: "Toe to toe = drew league game that really mattered at home, lost League Cup final, lost Scottish Cup semi-final, lost league game that really really mattered … won meaningless dead rubber… everyone’s toe to toe is different in fairness to Kenny."

Miller had said on Sportscene: "What it means is that Rangers are on track to finish the season on some level of a high.

“There were two defeats pre-split against Aberdeen in the league fixture and to Celtic in the semi-final.

“Well, they have bounced back by avenging that defeat against Aberdeen and with a fantastic win last week over Celtic last week.

“That was a real, positive, convincing win against their rivals. It has given them a chance to finish with five wins in a row.

“It has also given them a chance now - with those dropped points by Celtic against St Mirren yesterday – to finish, in Michael's time as the Rangers manager, with more points than Ange and Celtic have. I know it's slight consolation.

“But what it has shown is that over a decent sample size of 20 odd games Michael Beale and his Rangers team have gone toe to toe with Ange and Celtic in terms of the points they have gained.

“They still need to finish it off by beating Hearts at Ibrox and then St Mirren next week.

“But it’s a chance to finish with some level of positivity ahead of what will be an exciting summer.”
