Chris Rea recalls how he wrote “Driving Home For Christmas”, in an interview shared just days before his death at the age of 74.
The singer’s family announced his death on Monday (22 December). In a statement, they said: “He passed away peacefully in hospital earlier today following a short illness, surrounded by his family.”
In a snippet shared by the singer on Wednesday (17 December), the singer told Bob Mortimer that he wrote the iconic Christmas hit “when I was on the dole”.
Rea recalled: “My manager had just left me, I’d just been banned from driving, and my now-wife Joan had to pick me up in the Mini and take me home.”
