Chris McEleny on trial on threatening behaviour and criminal damage charges

THE SNP's former Inverclyde Council group leader has gone on trial at Greenock Sheriff Court today charged with threatening behaviour and criminal damage.

Christopher McEleny — now general secretary of the Alba party — is accused of shouting, swearing and repeatedly kicking and banging a door at an address on Kelly Street.

Prosecutors say he acted aggressively towards another man there and repeatedly demanded entry to a common close and made threats to force entry.

He is further charged with maliciously forcing the door and causing damage to its handle during an alleged incident on September 26, 2021.

He has pleaded not guilty to all of the allegations and evidence is now being led in the case.
