It's the question many Marvel fans are asking as Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo film as the God of Thunder, and eighth in the universe, hits the big screen – is he hanging up the hammer?
"Each time I do it I think this is the last one, then I'm incredibly thankful that I get asked back to do it again and again," he said during promotion of the latest film.
Hemsworth is one of the last original Avengers stars still making the blockbusters, or successful spin-off miniseries. His contract is up, plus, a new Thor is introduced in this latest film – but he's not ready to pass on the hammer just yet.
A seasoned pro at deflecting questions about spoilers, as is anyone involved in making a Marvel film, Hemsworth dances around the question about whether there is more for his Thor.
"I don't know," he said.
"I'll only do it if you do it," the director responded.
The duo's dynamic working relationship, and friendship, shines through in the interview.
"Wouldn't it be funny, just like a super-low-budget little road trip, you and another Marvel character…" Waititi spit-balls to Hemsworth, who doesn't completely reject the idea.
"You spend so long on these films, you put so much in, you work so hard, and then you come out the other side and the movie's out and everyone loves it – and it's a sort of weird PTSD where I've kind of blocked out every experience. I don't remember anything that happened," Waititi said.
"All I know is, I went in and started working on day one, and now we've got a movie."
'It's thanks to Taika'
Hemsworth is effusive in his praise of the director.
"Well, Taika is inundated with the writing process, the producing process, the casting, the directing. I have to come in and just act," he said.
"It's something [Waititi] insists on, you know there's music playing, he's laughing behind the camera, suggesting lines, it's improvisational.
"The adventure we have shooting the movie is represented on the screen and it's thanks to Taika."
Waititi, an Academy Award Winner, is credited with bringing new life to the franchise with a fresh comedic take when he signed on for the third instalment, Thor: Ragnarok.
"Working with Taika on Ragnarok we got to recreate the space and destroy what was there and start again, in a great way," Hemsworth said.
"We did that, and the fans loved it, and then we had to do it again."
The fun continues
The latest instalment attracted a number of Hollywood heavyweights. Natalie Portman reprises her role as ex-girlfriend-turned-Mighty-Thor, Jane Foster, Chris Pratt returns as Star-Lord and newcomers Russell Crowe and Christian Bale join the Marvel ranks.
When asked how he got fellow New Zealander Crowe on board, Waititi joked: "I said to him 'you get to wear a mini skirt' and he was in."
There's also a lot of buzz about a cheeky shot of Hemsworth's backside.
"It was really a business decision," the director said.
Thor has a midlife crisis
"Each time round, I try to do something different with the character," Hemsworth said.
"There is a more emotional version of [Thor] there. Having Thor view love in a very deep way and loss and somewhat of a midlife crisis, so to speak."
Waititi said the film speaks to more human issues.
"You know, someone who's a god, is beautiful, has everything, how do you create problems for them so they become more relatable?" he said.
"Paralleling my own life, a documentary of sorts," Hemsworth joked.
You can catch Thor: Love and Thunder in cinemas from Wednesday, July 6.
