Chris Eubank Jr provides update on return date amid Gennady Golovkin plan

Chris Eubank Jr is targeting a return to action in the summer and is plotting a three-fight year which could include a title clash against Gennady Golovkin.

The British star recently outpointed domestic rival Liam Williams to set up a potential middleweight world title shot later this year.

His preferred option remains Golovkin whose future currently remains uncertain as he awaits a rescheduled date for his unification with Ryota Murata.

Eubank Jr has claimed that Golovkin is currently a hard man to "pin down" but expects the fight to happen in the near future.

"Summertime I want to fight two more times this year once in the summer and then in the winter," Eubank Jr told Mirror Fighting . "Nothing official yet however Golovkin is a very hard man to pin down.

"We are trying our best but there is a lot of politics in boxing and a lot of hoops you have to jump through to get a world title shot.

"Time will tell and the fight will happen but whether it will happen next I am not sure but we are trying everything we can to pin him down.

"Anyone with a world title I am looking to fight, it is a stacked division with four world champions there and these fights can be made.

"There is a long list of fighters that we can get in the ring with and some awesome fights the public would love to see, and there are big names out there for me to fight domestically."

Eubank Jr now has a number of options available after his victory over Williams despite failing to impress many in the sport after falling short of a statement stoppage.

A rematch with Billy Joe Saunders has emerged as an option with his former rival keen to return to the ring in a bid to end their rivalry.

Conor Benn also claimed that preliminary talks have taken place for the pair to meet at a catchweight in a bid to mirror their father's famous rivalry.

Eubank Jr would prefer to remain in the world title mix however and he has frequently pined for the meeting with Golovkin.

Another more feasible option could be a domestic showdown with Kell Brook after he settled his rivalry with Amir Khan winning through a dominant stoppage.

The 32-year-old believes that a fight with Brook makes the most sense and wants to settle his "beef" with the Sheffield star.

"If he had nicked a win or got a points decision then the fight wouldn’t interest me at all," Eubank Jr continued. "When he dominates a world class fighter like Amir Khan, that is credible stuff and is the stuff that makes me think ‘ can he do it against me?’

"We are both coming on the back of big wins, we are both on Sky Sports so that fight makes a lot of sense.

"Let’s get it on and give the public what they want because there is history and ‘beef’ between us."
