Authorities in China’s southwestern municipality of Chongqing said Tuesday that they have launched an investigation into a case of a man who died after being shot by a police officer.
The man surnamed Weng, 49, was involved in a dispute Monday in the city’s Beibei district, according to a statement (link in Chinese) issued by local police. After the police arrived on the scene, Weng and his wife became “dissatisfied” with the officer’s handling of the incident and attacked the officer, the statement said.
Weng was subsequently shot by the officer. He was then rushed to a local hospital and died from his injury, despite emergency efforts to save his life, the statement added.
