Chloe Madeley recalls the 'really scary' moment daughter's heart rate dropped in labour

Chloe Madeley has recalled the moment her labour turned "really scary" as her daughter's heart rate kept on dropping eight hours in.

The fitness guru, 35, welcomed her first child, a baby girl Bodhi, with husband James Haskell on August 10, after two years of trying to conceive.

Nearly a month on, Chloe has shared her birthing story and the terrifying moment she was wheeled off to have an emergency caesarean over concerns about Bodhi's decreasing heart rate.

The daughter of Richard and Judy described how midwives ran in five times throughout the night as alarms went off, with James looking "more nervous" as the hours wore on.

Having planned for a water birth with gas and air, things changed at 8am in the morning as with little progress and fears over Bodhi, doctors decided to operate.

"“They wheeled me to the theatre and I cried like a baby the whole time, if James hadn’t been there I don’t know what I would have done. I was really scared - scared this thing was happening to my body that I had no control over," Chloe told OK! Magazine.

"I was scared for my baby - it was just a lot."

Recalling the surgery, James, 37, said: "I'm not particularly squeamish but seeing my wife cut open wasn’t on top of my agenda, but before I could back out, they pulled the sheet down and I saw the head come out of her stomach and then the body came out, and they sat her on Chloe’s chest.

"And I didn’t bat an eyelid, I just thought, ‘There’s my daughter!’ I cut the umbilical cord and held her while Chloe was being sewn up and just burst into tears."

The emergency surgery was happening as Richard was presenting Good Morning Britain, with the presenter, 66, revealing he was getting texts and updates all the way through the programme.

Richard said he was telling his co-host Charlotte Hawkins: "It's all kicking off" and later sought comfort as Chloe was wheeled off for emergency surgery.

While Chloe says she has taken to breastfeeding, she said her body "feels like a mess", with a 12-week recovery to let her muscles heal after the C-section.

The fitness fanatic added she still has her baby bump and while she "doesn't know how long it’s going to take to go down", she is "ok with that".
