England hero Chloe Kelly took her Euro 2022 celebrations to hilarious levels after stealing a reporter’s microphone during a post-match interview.
The Manchester City forward proved to be the match-winner for the Lionesses at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening as she prodded home from close range during extra-time against Germany. It was her first goal at the tournament and none will ever likely be as important as it halted England’s lengthy 56-year wait for major honours.
Of course, the TV cameras went straight to Kelly after the final whistle as wild celebrations took place both in the stands and across the country. The 24-year-old, though, could not resist getting in on the action.
During the middle of an interview with BBC One, she ran away to join the rest of her Lionesses teammates in singing a rendition of Sweet Caroline - the song having become synonymous with both the mens’ and the womens’ England sides over the past few years.
She claimed a souvenir from the interview, though, having run off with the TV reporter’s microphone in hand - leading to host Gabby Logan requesting it back.
She soon returned though to give her thoughts on the goal and England’s spectacular victory. She said: “Honestly, it’s amazing. This is what dreams are made of. Thank you to everyone that came out to support us. I started as a young girl watching women’s football and now this. It’s unbelievable.”

Kelly’s presence at the tournament was actually in doubt beforehand having sustained a serious knee injury. She only made her return to action in April and paid special praise to those who had helped her throughout her recovery period.
“Thank you to everyone that played a part in my rehab because I always believed I’d be here but to be here and score the winner, wow,” she continued.
Her final words were mentions to her teammates though, the Lionesses having captured the imagination of the entire nation throughout the tournament - with the side now expected to go on to continue challenging under the stewardship of Sarina Wiegman.
Kelly said: “These girls are special. The manager is special and what a special group of staff. This is amazing.”
Whilst the Man City forward has written herself into England folklore, the same can certainly be said of Lionesses teammate Beth Mead. The Arsenal star secured the Golden Boot at the tournament with six goals, whilst she was also named the Player of the Tournament after some stunning performances.
She becomes just the second Lioness in history to claim the top goalscorer award after Jodie Taylor in the 2017 edition of the tournament in the Netherlands.
