More than 150 vegetarian food kiosks are lining up on both sides of Yaowarat Road in Chinatown from the Royal Jubilee Gate for the "Vegetarian Festival At Yaowarat 2022", which is running daily from 10am to 9pm until Oct 4.

Organised by Samphanthawong District Office in collaboration with the Samphanthawong District Cultural Council, the annual festival will present a grand opening ceremony today to pay tribute to HM King Rama X's 70th birthday and HM Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother's 90th birthday.

One of the highlights is a cooking show by chefs from Grand China Yaowarat Hotel who will prepare a special dish of stir-fried noodles called phat mi sip chakkrapat mangkorn in a giant frying pan, at 5.45pm. Up to 1,790 dishes will also be served to visitors free of charge.

From 6.10pm onwards, there will be a car procession decorated with flowers and carrying a beauty who represents Guan Yin Bodhisattva (the goddess of compassion and mercy); a 70m-long silver dragon dance; a 90m-long gold dragon dance; a procession of lions with over 25 heads forming in a pyramid; and other processions to honour HM the King. The processions will start from the Royal Jubilee Gate (Odeon circle) and run along Yaowarat Road to Ratchawong intersection and proceed to Sue Pa intersection on Charoen Krung Road and go back to the Gate. As usual, those determined to go meatless during the festival are invited to witness a ceremony that invites gods to descend from the heavens. Then, enjoy a variety of delicious meat-free dishes and products at the 150 kiosks.
