A hotel at Loch Lomond that is among the oldest licensed premises in Scotland is believed to be one of the "most haunted hotels" in the UK.
Opened in 1705, The Drovers Inn is found in the small hamlet of Inverarnan. It may not look all that spooky from the outside, however there have been many chilling tales of ghouls and ghosts paying a visit to guests at the inn over the years.
From a little girl appearing in a photograph to screams of pain heard around the hotel, there is no shortage of spooky incidents that have occurred at The Drovers Inn. The hotel's reputation even led to paranormal investigators heading there last year, where they captured eerie footage of glowing balls moving in strange directions around the room.
According to the inn, some of the strange goings on may be explained by the tragic story of one young crofting family back in the winter of 1797. The Drovers Inn states that after the family were evicted from their home, they sought out the inn as a refuge after being caught in a snowstorm.
However, they unfortunately took a wrong turn along the way and tragically froze to death in the snow. Over the years, guests at The Drovers Inn have reported seeing a young family wandering around the nearby countryside during the winter months.
One terrifying incident occurred at the inn itself, where a couple awoke during the night shivering to see the young family standing at the end of their bed staring at them. Apparently, the youngest son waved to the terrified couple, almost like he was happy to have finally found the refuge he was searching for all those years ago.
Another couple also had a bone-chilling experience at the hotel one October night on their way up to the Isle of Mull. During the night, the woman woke her partner up to ask him if he could see flickering lights moving around their room.
He was astonished to see more than 10 small intense white lights floating in mid air. They spent some time entranced by the beautiful lights and the next morning were unable to come up with any logical explanation as to how they appeared.
One of the creepiest occurrences at The Drovers Inn was experienced by a woman and her daughter, who were staying at the hotel for a birthday celebration. Days after they left, they noticed a young girl in a pink dress in a photograph they had taken on the stairs.
The pair emailed the inn asking for information on who the mysterious girl was, as they did not remember seeing her. To their horror, The Drovers Inn responded by stating that there were no children staying at the hotel that night.
Perhaps even creepier is the tale of a young cattle drover named Angus who stopped off at the inn more than 300 years ago. After spending the night there, he awoke to find that members of a rival clan had made off with his cattle.
As punishment, the highland chieftain for whom he was delivering the precious cattle then ruthlessly murdered his family and girlfriend in front of his eyes. He attempted to enact his revenge on the rival clan, but they got the jump on him first.
The clan members hung Angus from a tree and bled him like the cattle they had stolen. Today, some guests at The Drovers Inn say they can hear the cattle drover screaming in agony, searching for the thieves who slaughtered him.
