Children with asthma who live with someone who vapes had higher odds of asthma flares and of trouble breathing during physical activity, according to research presented at the American Academy of Pediatrics 2026 National Conference & Exhibition in San Diego. The analysis covered 48,118 pediatric primary care visits, not 48,118 separate children, recorded between July 2023 and March 2026.
The findings come from a conference abstract, not a full peer-reviewed journal article. The design was cross-sectional, so it shows an association between household vaping and poorer asthma control. It does not prove that e-cigarette aerosol caused the flares.
