"The driver stopped at the scene." Witnesses said police remained at the scene with a stretch of the road opposite the park cordoned off, while a small group of people were gathered at the cordon and children were seen in tears following the incident.
One witness said: "The police have closed off the entire stretch of road all along the park and a good section of Lincombe Road. Paramedics were there, but now they have left, and there's road traffic police all over the road.
"Everyone is still in the park, so the park itself isn't closed down. There's loads of kids here because the park is pretty busy. There were six or seven people gathered at one end of the cordon."
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with information or dashcam footage to share is urged to contact @MerPolCC on social media or call Merseyside Police on 101, quoting reference 23000210001.
