A man has been reunited with his car 70 years after it was sold to a dealership.
Brian Francis, 88, was sitting at home watching coverage of the Paralympics when an advert covering Bristol Street Motors' 100 years in business came on.
Brian recognised the 1932 Vauxhall Cadet that he and his family had driven on family weekend trips from the 1930s through to the late 1950s.
Brian sat down and wrote a letter to the COE of Bristol Street Motors explaining to them that he was the grandson of the original owner of the car.
He said that the sight of the car on TV instantly brought back childhood memories of weekend trips with his family.
Mr Francis, from Radcliffe-on-Trent, said: "I was watching the Paralympics in the summer on television and I saw it during the advert break on Channel 5.
"I was aware of a vintage car, I didn't know whose advert it was or anything like that and I found this vintage car - it was just a number plate which just stuck out like a streak of lighting - OJ4251.
"I thought it can't be because that was my grandfather's car.
"I sat there hoping and praying that the advert would come back on and lo and behold there it was.
"It was the car my grandfather bought as new in about 1931/32.
"My childhood came back flashing before my eyes.
"I remember sitting on my father's knee on the seat, looking through the window. I mean seat belts and all the rest of it weren't even thought of in those days.
"We used to go out in it, it was during the war and petrol of course was rationed and my grandmother used to save her petrol coupons until she could get a sufficient amount to take us on a trip.
"That was how I was reintroduced to an old family friend!"
Brian said that getting back in the car one last time was a "very emotional" experience.
Many people were in attendance to see Brian reunite with the vehicle, including the current owner Royston Sansom who did not intend to buy the car when it was first purchased.
He says he "adores" it now.
Mr Sansom, 77, said: "I bought it quite by chance by actual fact.
"I went to a dealer in Bicester to look at a different car but it needed so much work done.
"So I got chatting to another chap who said they had another one and it was a Vauxhall and I looked at it, it looked very pretty and it was the sort of era I was looking for so it was a snap decision - bought it there and then.
"Initially I actually wasn't too keen because by modern standards it's quite slow to drive - 40mph is just about max.
"But within or month or so [after I bought it] I grew to love it because so many people talk about it, so many people give you a wave because it's a lovely car to look at.
"I absolutely adore it now."
Bristol Street Motors Hyundai Nottingham is located on Nuthall Road.
