A teenager has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a collision in Sunderland.
Emergency crews attended the scene on the A183 on between Herrington Country Park and the A19 in Penshaw just after 4pm today (May 18). A 14-year-old teenager was found to have been injured after being knocked over by a van.
The A183 in Penshaw was closed by Northumbria Police in both directions between Herrington Country Park and the A19. The closure caused some disruption on the nearby roads with slow traffic reported in the vicinity.

A spokesman for the Force said confirmed their attendance at the scene. They added that the teenage casualty is not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident.
They said: "Police received a report of a collision on the A183 on between Herrington Country Park and the A19 on Wednesday, May 18. At around 4.10pm today (Wednesday, May 18) police received a report of a collision between a van and a pedestrian on the A183 near Hettington Country Park in Sunderland.
"Officers and ambulance attended the scene where a 14 year-old teen has been taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening. The road remains closed in both directions and diversions are in place."
The A183 has now reopened in both directions. Traffic returned to normal between Herrington Country Park and A19 after the crash site was cleared.
