Chiefs vs. Steelers: Patrick Mahomes, Justin Watson connect for record-tying touchdown

The Kansas City Chiefs are off to a hot start in Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter of the Christmas Day matchup.

A quick score by rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy on the Chiefs’ first possession gave Kansas City an early lead, and veteran wideout Justin Watson was keen to get in on the scoring action on the defending Super Bowl champions’ second drive.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was able to look Watson’s way after marching the Chiefs downfield late in the first quarter and hit the former Penn Quaker with a perfect pass in the end zone that secured the veteran signal-caller another place in the NFL’s record books.

Watch this video of Mahomes’ touchdown pass to Watson, which was posted to Twitter by the Chiefs’ official account:

With this score, Mahomes’ tied legendary quarterback Peyton Manning for the most touchdown passes through a player’s first eight seasons, with a total of 244.

Mahomes’ accomplishment is even more impressive, given that he only played in one game as a rookie.
