The Kansas City Chiefs are set to re-sign one of their own on the practice squad.
It was a whirlwind weekend for Dicaprio Bootle. He was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Saturday, he played in the Week 6 game against the Bills, and he was waived from the 53-man roster on Monday. He’s now back with the team on the practice squad after clearing waivers on Tuesday.
The second-year cornerback out of Nebraska played one defensive snap in place of Jaylen Watson against the Bills. He also played seven special teams snaps during the course of the game.
Bootle had just one practice squad elevation remaining for the 2022 NFL season, which is part of the reason why they signed him to the 53-man roster for Sunday’s game. It was clear they envisioned him as the next man up at the cornerback position over players like Nazeeh Johnson and Chris Lammons. He has the flexibility to play both the nickel corner spot and outside. With the team shorthanded due to Rashad Fenton’s hamstring injury, it was important that he was up for the Week 6 game.
The fact that Bootle is no longer on the 53-man roster should provide a bit of optimism that either Fenton or even Trent McDuffie should be back in the lineup for Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers.
