Chiefs rookie CB Jaylen Watson goes 99 yards for pick-6 vs. Chargers

Let’s get one thing straight: Jaylen Watson never should have been a seventh-round pick in the first place.

The Washington State product was ranked No. 109 overall on our final board, falling just outside our third-round grades. The Kansas City Chiefs managed to land him with the 243rd overall selection in the 2022 NFL draft, just a handful of slots before the three-day event was over.

Any of the other 31 teams in the NFL would have been wise to snatch him up long before then, and Watson proved why during Thursday night’s Week 2 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

With the game tied five minutes into the fourth quarter, the Chargers had 1st-and-goal from the Chiefs’ four-yard line. That’s why Watson jumped in front of a Justin Herbert pass and raced 99 yards the other way for the game-changing touchdown:

Not bad for a guy who was almost an undrafted free agent, but never should have come anywhere close.
