Chiefs reveal logo celebrating 50th anniversary of Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Arrowhead Stadium in 2022, and with that celebration comes a new logo.

The iconic home of the Chiefs opened its gates for the first time on August 12, 1972, with the team officially transferring from Municipal Stadium. Kansas City faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the preseason that day, defeating their neighbors in Missouri 24 – 14.

The Chiefs have since won hundreds of regular-season games in the stadium that they’ve called home for the last 50 seasons. The stadium has undergone numerous renovations and now is known as GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City will celebrate this particular anniversary of their home field as the team’s (distant) future at Arrowhead remains up in the air. Their current lease with the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority expires in January of 2031.

The new logo has a pretty sleek design, with the iconic stadium and the No. 50 appearing in a football-shaped outline. It’s unclear whether the team will wear this newly unveiled logo as a patch on player uniforms or helmets, but fans can recall the throwback endzone look that the team brought back to commemorate the NFL’s 100th season and the team’s 60th season. Those endzones featured the team’s 60th season logo on one side and the Chiefs’ Arrowhead logo on the other. It’s reasonable to expect that they could do something similar with the team’s endzone designs throughout the 2022 NFL season.
